HeroScribe's aim is to give new life to HeroQuest©, one of the
most celebrated Board Games/RPG of the '90s.
Create new adventures for
the Barbarian, the Mage, the Elf and the Dwarf united against the
Gargoyles, the Orcs, the Goblins and the forces of chaos!
HeroScribe is a quest/map editor. Every HeroQuest icon is included
in HeroScribe.
HeroScribe's
maps achieve typographic quality thanks to a vector representation
of the maps objects.
HeroScribe is written in Java and PostScript.
HeroScribe's main output format is
EPS, the de-facto
standard in the printing industry.
EPS files can be opened by almost any CG application (GNU
Ghostscript is recommended).
Maps can also be exported in PNG and PDF formats.
As an example, you can look at the european and the american
PDF versions of
Valerio's Aelle And Cullwych quest (please note that
each PDF file is about 300 KB long). The PDFs were obtained by
converting the EPS files produced by HeroScribe.
There are some JPEG files too: european God's
Blade, american God's Blade, european Improved and american Improved. Please note that - to keep the size
small - their quality is much lower than the quality of the actual
HeroScribe output.
HeroScribe has native looking widgets on mac os x and windows; please have a look at some screenshots: macos x, windows classic and windows xp.
HeroScribe requires the Java Runtime
Environment 1.4.2. Download it and install it before
HeroScribe.
HeroScribe 1.0pre1 was released on December 25th 2004. This release adds some minor features (like multi-board maps).
There are two different download packages:
HeroScribe is © 2003-2005 Flavio Chierichetti and Valerio
Chierichetti.
HeroScribe is free software, distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL 2.
HeroQuest and the icons used by HeroScribe are © of Milton
Bradley Co.
This program is not intended as a challenge to the rights of
the Milton Bradley Co. in regard to HeroQuest©.
